1. This record from a small station in central Alaska is not listed in most other sources. However, data from nearby locations also showed high temperatures that day. I consider this record to be possible, if not confirmed.

2. This is the "official" record for the highest temperature in Alaska. Many people consider this record plausible, but not confirmed.

3. The highest temperature recorded in Alaska at a large airport, this forms a lower bound for the highest temperature recorded in Alaska.

4. Likely erroneous. However, this appears in the Guiness Book of World Records as the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth.

5. It may be impossible to determine a record for the highest temperature recorded in Hawaii. The "record" of 100 °F set in Pahala in 1930 is not correct. Our number of 98 °F represents the highest temperature recorded at an airport, but there are many places in Hawaii that have seen temperatures in the high 90s Fahrenheit.
