Hottest Temperature All-Time
The highest temperature in California history is 130 °F which was recorded in Death Valley in 2020 and 2021. This record also holds the mark for the highest temperature reliably recorded in the United States and the world as a whole. An earlier record of 134 °F at Greenland Ranch is now generally considered a measurement error.
Coldest Temperature All-Time
The lowest recorded temperature in California history is -45 °F which was recorded at Boca and Tamarack in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in January, 1937.
